How to play Kabaddi

Kabaddi

Kabaddi is a contact sport that originated in ancient India and is now popular in South Asia and other parts of the world. The game involves two teams of seven players each, who take turns sending a "raider" into the opposing team's half of the court. The raider's objective is to tag as many defenders as possible and return to his own half of the court without being tackled or running out of breath. The defenders' objective is to stop the raider by tackling him and preventing him from returning to his own half of the court before taking a breath. Points are awarded to the raider's team for each defender tagged, while the defenders' team earns points for successfully stopping the raider. The game is known for its fast pace, physicality, and strategic elements.

Kabaddi is a team sport that requires two teams of seven players each. Here are the basic rules of how to play kabaddi:

  1. The game begins with a toss, and the team that wins the toss gets to choose whether they want to raid first or defend first.

  2. The raider's objective is to cross the midline of the court and tag as many defenders as possible before returning to his own half of the court.

  3. The defender's objective is to tackle the raider before he can return to his own half of the court.

  4. The raider must chant the word "kabaddi" repeatedly while in the opponent's half of the court and cannot take a breath until he returns to his own half.

  5. The defenders cannot cross the center line of the court until the raider has entered their half of the court.

  6. If a defender successfully tackles the raider, the raider is out and the defender's team earns a point.

  7. If the raider successfully tags one or more defenders and returns to his own half of the court without being tackled or running out of breath, his team earns a point for each defender tagged.

  8. If a raider fails to tag any defender or return to his own half of the court before taking a breath, he is out and the defenders' team earns a point.
